Welcome to Greenwood
A Message from Tom Melton, Senior Pastor
In 1991, the Lord gave me a call and, in so doing, a gift. That call was to spread the message of His grace to as many people as he would send my way. That gift was Greenwood Community Church.
We were a small group of people who were alive with a vision and desire to grow God's kingdom by spreading His message of grace. It has been a wonderful journey.
Life's Most Precious Gifts
Shortly after we began this adventure, my middle son, Nick, gave me a small plant in a paper cup as a Father's Day gift. Touched by his thoughtfulness, I vowed to give this plant my best care, even though I knew very little about what that would entail. I placed it on my desk in the sun and watered it.
To my amazement, the plant grew. Today it is a small tree. It is one of my most prized possessions-not because of its size or beauty, but because it was a gift from my son.
Grow and Flourish
Over the years I have repotted the plant four or five times to encourage it to grow and flourish. This is the only plant that I have ever given this much attention-not because I love plants-but because it was a gift from my son.
If someone had asked me how big the plant would get, I would have said, "I'm not sure, but I'm going to do all I can to keep it healthy so it can be the plant it was designed to be."
Join Us on This Journey
Such is the story and history of Greenwood. As we have endeavored to care for this gift, God has not only increased our numbers, but He has helped our body to thrive. Today our church has grown from 50 people sharing in God's grace to nearly 2,800 each week.
Along the way, we have repotted the plant (expanded the building) to allow the plant to remain healthy and as a result, it continues to grow. God has used Greenwood to help plant four new churches, start new ministries and witness hundreds of families, parents and children grow and mature spiritually.
We welcome all who wish to join with us in the never-ending adventure of grace and faith.
